Guglielmo Guidi

Actor, Playwright and Director

Actor, playwright and director since 1966, he has collaborated with artists of the calibre of Robert Wilson, Peter Greenaway, Vanessa Redgrave, Philip Glass. He directed the opening and the first three seasons of the Teatro Augusteo of Naples, from 1991 to 1994; from 1997 to 1999 he held the same office at the Teatro Politeama of Naples. In 1995 he is the artistic director for “prima rassegna teatrale di AMALFI” on behalf of the City of Salerno. In 1996 he is the artistic director of “CARTHUSIA” at the Certosa di Capri on behalf of Teatro Nuovo of Milan. In 1999 he is artistic director for the Castel Sant’Elmo Theatre Festival “Musei sotto le Stelle” promoted by the Ministry of Culture. In 2000, he directed the first Theatre Festival of the Royal Palace of Caserta (Prima Rassegna Teatrale delle Regge Vanvitelliane) and of “Palazzo Reale di Napoli”, promoted by the Superintendence for Environmental and Architectural Heritage of Naples and Campania Region.
Author since 1978, his first play “Dialogo con la Morte” (“Dialogue with Death”) was performed at the S. Ferdinando Theatre of Naples for E.T.I. – S. Ferdinando Ricerca directed by Giulio Baffi. From 1981 to 1987, he establishes and heads a Theatrical Research Organization recognized by Campania Region as Cultural Authority of Regional Importance L.R. 49/85. In 1983, he is the artistic director of the Teatro Cilea of Naples.
From 1988 to 1990, he is the artistic director of the Accademia Teatrale of Teatro Diana of Naples. For many years involved in a research on theatrical theoretics, he designs and realizes for the first time in Italy a Process of Dramatization on the fields of transposition of significant systems, which earned him the publication of the volume “Teaching between the Scenes” (“Insegnare tra le quinte”) published by “Nuova Italia” – Florence 1988.
He has collaborated with the Education Sciences Department of University “La Sapienza” of Rome with theatrical workshops and lessons on the theme: “the expressive elements of the voice”. He has directed over the national territory ranging from drama to musical and ballet. For the three-year period 1997-2000, he receives, from the Provveditorato agli Studi di
Napoli, the position of director of dramatization courses for teachers of schools of every order and degree on the “theatrical process”.
